Watching the Women's Individual All-around Final event of the Beijing Olympics makes me wish I had never given up gymnastics.
I guess six years was okay enough; same with ballet and its eight years. I've got the long legs and strong leg muscles, but just am not thin enough for these sports. The pressure to be thin is so high, especially in ballet, that it's discouraging even when I tried to take ballet again in college - even though I was the second most advanced in the class (but of course, the girl who was probably more advanced that me was like a stick around the waist, so perhaps that further proves my point).
But in gymnastics it's okay to be stocky...right?
